While youngster are conscious and vain with their looks nowadays, there exists Lizzie Velasquez who didn’t hide from the public after being cruelly tagged as the Ugliest Woman in the world. Normally, a girl would have been devastated if she would be called the infamous alias but Lizzie ugliest woman in the world wasn’t at all fazed. She used her religion and became a motivational speaker.
There are only three people in the world who were born with rare and unusual genetic ailment one of which is Lizzie. Her condition is the same with progeria. Lizzie has zero percent body fat and only weighs 60 pounds. She cannot gain weight although she averages 5,000 kilocalories each day. Apart from her genetic problem, she is also sightless in her right eye while her left eye has limited vision. For a normal 24 year old girl, it will not be surprising to feel miserable. However Lizzie Velasquez beautiful remained positive and fighting.
During her high school days, a video in Youtube coining Lizzie “The Ugliest Woman in the World” gained over millions of views and hateful and rude comments against her. Lizzie’s parents tried to remove the video but the anonymous who posted the video didn’t agree. Lizzie shared her feelings when she discovered the video in a TEDx Austin women talk last month. Her bravery, humor and heart are very enchanting one can see her inner beauty radiates. In her speaking engagements, she asks her audience “What defines You”.
She wanted to fight back those comments especially from someone who said to put a bullet in her head but she didn’t pick up a fight. “Am I gonna let the people who called me a monster define me? No. I’m gonna let my goals and my success and my accomplishments be the things that define me” she shared in her video that reached hundreds of thousands of views.
During her speech, she acknowledges how different she is because of her condition. she pointed out her flaws but was witty and wise enough to highlight her good side. She said she has great hair and of course, the main advantage is that she can eat anything she wants since she will literally not gain any. I bet many girls wanted to have this kind of ability. She admitted that it was hard and although she is carrying a brave act, she still gets hurt because she is after all, a human.
However, rather than turning sour, be angry, hopeless and be depressed, Lizzie took the road less traveled and see the positive side. She educates high school students of her rare disorder as she challenged the bullying issue. She scheduled dialogue arrangements to tackle bullying. Due to this, Lizzie was able to appear in different TV Shows and made three books including the Be beautiful be you by lizzie velasquez.
